Dolphins Fountain

Details

In the centre of the Place d'Armes, you can see the Hospital's fountain... The latter is now called "dolphin fountain"; indeed, the water flows from the dolphins that you can see on each side of the central pedestal.
It was built in honour of King Charles X, whose bust it was wearing. After the revolution of July 1830, the Haguenovians, anxious to make the signs of their loyalty to the fallen king disappear, replaced the bust with a bowl and erased the dedication to the king by digging grooves on the column shaft. Look carefully at this column... On the protruding parts of these grooves are still visible letters of this dedication.
