Batzendorf
Details
Batzendorf is a rural village, between tradition and modernity, located 5 km from Haguenau and about 20 km from Strasbourg. Batzendorf has 993 inhabitants, covers 690 hectares, is part of the Haguenau Urban Community and is twinned with Laizé in Burgundy. Batzendorf has a very beautiful bulbous bell tower church built in 1781 that is dedicated to Saint Arbogast. It has 2 gravel pits on its bank, one of which extracts sands of great diversity (quartz, clay, gravel, topsoil, etc.) used by the construction, ceramics and chemical industries. Quartz sand is known for its uses in various fields: tiling, masonry, foundry, aquarium, golf, sports field, filtration, glassware, hydraulic cutting... The municipality also has about ten agricultural holdings (hops, raspberries, oyster mushrooms, asparagus, etc.) and, in terms of trade and crafts, it offers a wide range of services: medical care, local shops, hotels and restaurants, etc.
