Bitschhoffen

Details

Bitschhoffen is a municipality in the historical and cultural region of Northern Alsace. Bitschhoffen is located one kilometre north of Pfaffenhoffen and Niedermodern, 13 kilometres from Haguenau, north of the Moder river. Bitschhoffen was an imperial village in the time of the Holy Roman Empire, it was under the direct control of the emperor. During the conquest of Alsace by France, the village became a royal village. The municipality of La Walck was an annex of Bitschhoffen until the middle of the 19th century. The traditional costume of the Bitschhoffen women differs from the traditional Alsatian costume in the fabric of the headdress, the latter reminiscent of Scottish motifs. Bitschhoffen has a church, the Saint-Maurice church.
