Dauendorf is a municipality of about 1500 inhabitants located at the top of a hill reaching just over 200 metres above sea level. It is to the religious tradition that we owe in the village several ancient chapels that are surrounded by legend. In the past, agricultural activity was present throughout the territory but the village has expanded through the extension of residential districts. The network of associations is extensive in the fields of art, folklore and sports. The village has a "Concordia" communal hall, a music room, sports fields, and an elementary school. It is in Dauendorf that one of the most important retirement homes in the country can be found. Dauendorf includes an adjoining village, Neubourg, located in the Moder valley. It is on the banks of the Moder river that a Cistercian abbey was built in the Middle Ages. The activity of Cistercian monks lasted until the period of the Revolution. Part of the site has been preserved and restored by the current owners. The small village is surrounded by the Haguenau forest whose trails amaze walkers and are used every winter for a sporting running competition.
