Due to its geographical position, Mommenheim controls a real road junction and serves an agricultural hinterland with services and shops. For a long time marked by a strong agricultural activity, which has considerably decreased, and despite a certain attractiveness, most of the residents work outside the municipality, mainly in the urban areas of Strasbourg and Haguenov and more secondarily in the neighbouring villages (Brumath and Hochfelden). The hosting of the Departmental Platform of Activities tends to reduce this phenomenon and attract many employees from neighbouring countries. About 2000 inhabitants, about twenty associations and more than 170 schoolchildren keep pace with the village and provide activities throughout the year that give the village its dynamic image. A natural element occupies an important place in Mommenheim: Water. Indeed, 7 catchment wells located in the south of the commune supply 55 villages (30570 inhabitants). This water, which naturally contains excessive levels of iron and manganese, is treated and disinfected in two biological stations and stored in ten reservoirs.
