Wintershouse
Details
The municipality is an old imperial village of the great bailiwick of Haguenau First mention in 1187; former imperial village then royal being part of the seigneury of Choiseul Stainville at the end of the old regime and is located on a site called "Les collines de Brumath". The name can be broken down into two German words: "der Winter", i. e. "winter" and "das Haus", i. e. "house, dwelling. Spelled "Wintershouse" or "Wintershausen", the name of the village can be translated as "winter houses". A charming village of 907 inhabitants, the "Maison de l'hiver" is not icy! In Wintershouse we meet, dance, move, sing, play. There are plenty of opportunities to get together and share good times. The "crows" (The inhabitants of Wintershouse are nicknamed "crows" ("Ràmme" in German) flourish in the commune of "herring" (This refers to the Est-Friture company, established in Wintershouse since 1979), which had the honour of welcoming very recently "three dragonflies" ! Indeed, in November 2016, the municipality of Wintershouse was awarded the label "Commune nature" decorated with 3 dragonflies.
